Speaking

Over the years I have spoken at, or chaired, a variety of events. Here is a very short selection:

  • OurCommonGround event in Brussels, June 2024, invited to speak on future cooperation between EU and UK thanks to an invite by Fondazione Brodolini and the3million. With my “independent strategist” hat on, I also chaired a break out session on sustainability and climate change, which built on new research showing that climate change and sustainability are among the sectors where there is overall highest appetite for close collaboration between the EU and the UK in the British public, including among those who have voted to leave the EU. 
  • Italian Cultural Institute, April 2024: in the week of Italy’s annual celebration of liberation from fascism, I was invited to present the story of my great aunt Iolanda who received an award from the British government for helping Allied prisoners of war during WW2 in Italy. I spoke of how I uncovered the story and the broader context of WW2 in Italy, as well as about the importance of better understanding and preserving our history in order to comprehend our present and our future.
  • London Climate Action Week, 2023: organised and spoke at the first-ever event on climate change for the Italian community in London (the largest minority of foreign citizens in the city) as part of this prestigious annual event.
  • CGIL event in London, 2022: invited by INCA UK to speak alongside Maurizio Landini, secretary general of Italy’s largest trade union (CGIL). The event was mainly about Brexit but as this was covered by previous speakers I addressed the issue of climate change and just transition, the potential job creation of renewable energy, within the context of recent Italian elections, and implications for the Italian diaspora.
  • The Convention (2019), on a panel with Labour MP Stella Creasy MP, former Tory MP Neil Carmichael, chaired by Mary Fitzgerald of OpenDemocracy. Video of the session here.
  • Europe Day event (2018), speaking in a session with Lord Andrew Adonis , Lucy Anderson MEP, Stephen Dorrell, Brendan Donnelly, Jean Lambert MEP, Femi Oluwole and John Stevens. My speech is here.
  • IDDRI event in Paris, France, on European climate policy (2017). Chair and speaker of a session.

  • CarbonCAP conference in Brussels on consumption-based approaches in international climate change policy (2016)
  • UK Parliament, Westminster (2005) Science and Technology select Committee evidence session
  • University of Bournemouth event (2005) on the campaign for a UK Climate Change Act. Spoke on behalf of Friends of the Earth England Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • Green Week, European Commission, Brussels (2004), spoke on behalf of WWF Europe.
